She stood among barefoot children waiting with their empty plates to be fed by aid groups. Her eyes had a look that was intense and haunted. I pulled her from the crowd for the photo, her clothes were of a different class, and even her sandals stood out among the children. As she told her story I fought back tears, she loved her brother and father so deeply the scars of what she witnessed was raw but she maintained the stoicism of the refugees. I could see the fear, anger, and tenderness in her eyes that reminded me of my own children. There was something about her that broke my heart, that made me fear for her childhood and the wickedness of man.   Showkat Arar,10, from village of Maungdaw* has been at the refugee camp for ten-days. She witnessed the military kill her father and brother, and broke her arm while crawling away to safety.
